Natural wines in Berkeley

Okay, so for once, Facebook actually showed me a sponsored post, that I could use. Usually all you see in ads are stuff you already bought, but this time, my eyes landed on the word "Natural". After moving to California, I realized (though I also suspected this to be the case before moving) that the concept of natural and in general biodynamic wines are not that popular over here - yet. We had seen some tendencies at a couple of restaurants of having more organic wines, and in some even biodynamic. But the natural wines which are wines made with minimal chemical and technical intervention making them a lot more diverse and exciting in my opinion than traditional wines (which I also absolutely adore, by the way) are not as widespread here.

Luckily, my eyes went across the word "Pétillant-naturel" which is the bubbly equivalent of the natural wines, hence we had to go to this place. So Sunday afternoon we went to Berkeley, went directly into the tasting room, luckily tastings were available from 1-5 PM, so we spent an hour or so here tasting what was all natural wines, though compared to the variation met in Denmark for instance, there is still some way to go, which is also expected since the concept is still quite new here. Well, we ended up buying a case of a very nice Zinfandel, together with their fall selection. Going out the door, happily finding ourselves with a good startup set, we found that we were actually in the street of wine-tasting rooms. Right next door was another natural wine place, and next to that another wine place.

After having tasted 7 wines at Broc Cellars, we went for just one more glass at the place next door called Donkey and Goat Winery. And well, yes, this glass of red wine named "The Bear" was another lovely wine, thus going out the door with another 6 bottles. Now we just need a wine refrigerator. And I do not think this will be our last trip to Berkeley, the city of natural wines apparently.
